It is an online program that allows you to create an online profile with some criteria needed to create the profile. Some of the requirements for the profile are:

  • Your age
  • Your work experience, skill or training
  • Education credential assessment report
  • Language proficiency test results
  • Certificate of qualification in a trade occupation issued by a Canadian province or territory (if you have one)
  • Provincial Nomination (if you have one)

After meeting these requirements for creating your online profile, you will have to complete the profile within 60days and you will have to be as early as possible as it has it importance in determining if you will be selected to receive an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

After you have completed your online profile, you will be placed in draw pool with other candidates and a ranking system will be used to give you a score and determine the candidates with the highest scores based on the criteria used to create the online profile.

WHAT IS THE RANKING SYSTEM USED?

The ranking system used is called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and there is a cut-off score that will be used to grade the scores of all the candidates in that particular express entry pool draw. The CRS score is divided into two, the core set with is 600points and the maximum which is 1200points and candidates are required to meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score to be deemed successful.

What is the CRS cut-off score?

The CRS cut-off score should be around 700-800points although it changes every year. But you can actually improve your own score to meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score for that draw.

WHAT IF YOU WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL THE FIRST TIME?

One interesting thing about the Express Entry System is that after creating an online profile, your profile can stay in the system for up to a year and if you are not successful the first time you apply, you can actually improve your CRS score so that you can increase the rate of your success in the next draw. Mind you, the draws are done as often as two weeks.

You can improve your CRS score by:

  • Applying with your family or spouse
  • Gaining more professional skill or experience
  • Redoing your language proficiency test
  •  Getting a job offer in Canada

The Express Entry System has three programs under it and they are:

  1. Canadian Experience Class
  2. Federal Skilled Worker Program
  3. Federal Skilled Trades Program

The Canadian Express Entry Immigration system is open to almost everyone so as a Ghanaian, this can be the right pathway to getting your Canadian visa and permanent residence.

  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

This is another good Canadian immigration program and a lot of immigrants have come into Canada through this program including Ghanaians.

The program allows local provinces to select eligible candidates to come into the province and fill up shortages in labour there by boosting economic growth and development. There are 12 provinces that are involved in this immigration program and they are in charge of their requirements and nomination of candidates into the province.

The program allows foreign skilled workers to come into the province and contribute their skills and expertise to the growth of the province. As a Ghanaian the wants to go through this immigration program, you will definitely have to have a skill that is among the list of occupation in-demand in that province for you to be nominated.

How Can You Apply Through The Provincial Nominee Program?
There are two ways in which you can actually apply through this program; you have the direct application and Express Entry-linked PNP.

The direct entry is applying directly through the province and getting a nomination after the province has certified that you meet the requirements for the program. This can be through mail or courier services and it can take about 15 to 19 months. Don’t think you might want to wait for that long and so you can try the other one.

The other is express entry-linked program where the province nominates candidates from the express entry pool as these candidates have shown an interest in the province through their application or applied for the jobs that are in high demand in that province and it can take about 6-8 months for processing.

So one thing you should know is that for you to have an advantage in applying for Canadian visa through this program, you will have to have a skill that is in high demand in the province of your choice.

Many provinces in Canada are looking to boost their workforce and this province is a very good platform to do that. So you actually stand a chance to immigrate to Canada through this program as a skilled Ghanaian.

When you have being nominated after passing or meeting the requirements of the province like:

  • Age
  • Skill in-demand
  • Medical clearance
  • Police and security check

The PNP will assist you with a work visa before you move to Canada.

  • Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)

Studying is an easy way to immigrate to Canada but it is not a direct process to get a permanent residence in Canada. You will have to pick a study program that has a long duration so you can be able to work for long in Canada while studying so as to get a Canadian work experience to help you apply for permanent residence in Canada after completing your study program in Canada. It could be a Master’s degree program or a PH.D program.

The PGWP is for foreign students who have completed a study program from a designated learning institution in Canada or outside Canada. it is a program under the open work visa and also the student to work for any employer in Canada for the duration of studying in the country. There are some requirements for this program if you want to go through this program and they are:

  • You must have completed a study program at a Designated Institution
  • You must have graduated from a public or private post-secondary school in any Canadian province (college, university or technical school)
  • You must have studied in Canada as a full-time student for at least 8 months
  • Having enough money to take care of yourself while in Canada and any other family member that comes with you
  • You must have no criminal record
  • You must send the application for your work permit within 90 days of your graduation
  • You must have a valid study permit when you are applying for the work permit

You can also apply as a post-secondary school graduate to study in any designated university in Canada and get your first-degree in any program as this can also afford you the opportunity to work while studying so that you can get some Canadian work experience. As a Ghanaian, the student visa or Post Graduation Work Permit is a good option for you under the study permit if you meet the requirements of any them.
